Website or landing page?
One is a place to explore. The other has a single job. Choosing wrong is an expensive way to find out the difference.
The short version
A website is a set of connected pages that answers everything someone might want to know about your business, and is designed to be found in search. A landing page is one page with one offer and one action, usually built for traffic you are paying for.
| Website | Landing page | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Explain the business, rank in search, convert across several intents | Convert one specific audience on one specific offer |
| Navigation | Full menu, internal links, breadcrumbs | Stripped back or removed |
| Traffic | Organic search, Google Business Profile, referrals, direct | Google Ads, Meta Ads, email, QR codes, print |
| Lifespan | Years, added to as the business grows | A campaign, a season, a test |
| Typical cost | From A$299 at WEBSYD | From A$199 at WEBSYD |
When a landing page is the right call
- You are running ads and want to know exactly what each click produced.
- You are promoting one service — end-of-lease cleaning, termite inspections, emergency electrical — rather than the whole business.
- You are testing a new suburb or offer before building a permanent page.
- You have a campaign with a clear start and end: a seasonal special, an event, a launch.
The reason it works is focus. Someone who clicked an ad about bond cleaning does not want your about page, your blog or your six other services. They want the price, the inclusions, the availability and a button.
When you need a website instead
- You want to be found in organic search for more than one thing.
- You sell several services, or work across several areas, and each deserves its own page.
- Customers research before they buy — builders, clinics, legal, anything considered.
- You want an asset that keeps working when the ad budget stops.
This is the important difference: a landing page rarely earns organic traffic on its own, because a single isolated page has little to support it. A website builds authority across a topic — service pages, area pages, guides — and keeps producing enquiries after you stop paying for clicks.
The mistake that costs the most
Pointing paid ads at your home page. The ad promised something specific; the home page talks about the business in general. The visitor has to work out where to go next, and a meaningful share of them do not bother. If you are spending money on clicks and sending them to the home page, a matched landing page is usually the cheapest improvement available to you.
The second mistake is the reverse: relying on landing pages alone and wondering why nothing ranks. Ads stop the moment you stop paying.
How most businesses end up
With both. A website carrying the organic work — a page per service, area coverage, the proof and the practical detail — and a landing page or two for whatever they are currently advertising, pointed at a single action, with a separate thank-you page so conversions can actually be counted.
If you only have budget for one right now, build the website. It is the asset. Add landing pages when you start paying for traffic.

Can a landing page rank in Google?
It can, but it is not what they are built for. A service page inside a website usually does better organically because the rest of the site supports it.
Should I build a landing page for every suburb?
For ads, matched pages lift conversion. For organic search, near-identical suburb pages are doorway pages and can get the whole site discounted.
Can a landing page live on my existing website?
Yes, on its own URL with the navigation reduced. That keeps tracking clean and the message focused.
How many landing pages do I need?
One per offer or audience you are actively advertising to. More than that is usually maintenance you will not keep up with.
